Spirit of Vatican II

The design of the piece is simple and primitive. Act I, a homosocial male circle centered on an Aids sufferer; the blood trauma of male sexuality. Act II, the trauma of female sexuality; women weltering in menstrual blood. Act III male and female unite, trauma gives way to joy, Parsifal plunges his lance in Kundry's cup and she expires in ecstasy. But in reality Wagner remained caught in the homosocial ring. The spear healing takes place between two men, Amfortas polluted by woman and Parsifal his pure successor. Kundry's destiny, like that of the Jews in one of Wagner's most shocking statements, is to cease to exist as such.
